I had a spare hour on my hands yesterday and decided to have a little bit of a play with some of the new PaperArtsy products....there are so many, it was hard to decide which ones to use but I really wanted to try and include some of Ellen Vargo's new hand carved designs as this is a style that I have become very fond of so here is a step by step of what I did.
1. To start, I pasted a piece of the new Chatsworth paper collection to a piece of grey board using matt medium. I also pasted a layer of this over the paper to seal it and project it.Then I sanded the edges.
2. I used one of my new stencils PS002 to add some designs to the paper using Snowflake Fresco Finish paint. I dried this thoroughly before working on the next layer.
3. I painted a layer of slightly watered down Chartreuse over the whole thing. This is one of the colours from my Limited Edition set of paints. I can honestly say it is my new favourite colour, I have used up a whole bottle already!!!
4. I took one of the fabulous hand carved stamps from EEV04 and stamped it with Snowflake. After drying thoroughly, I took a baby wipe and added a layer of Tikka ...... another Limited Edition colour.
5. Next, another Ellen Vargo stamp, this time from EEV03 and again I stamped with Snowflake and dried it.
6. Baby wipe technique again, this time with Chutney, another Limited Edition colour ......can you see a bit of a pattern going on here. It's all about the layers, starting with the lightest colour and building. I also used the Chutney around the edges of the grey board.
7. Now to start building the top layer. Because the colours I wanted to use are translucent, they wouldn't show up very well over my multi-layered background so I added a layer of Snowflake first, this allows me to build on top of this and shows the true colour of the paint. The stencilled image is from PS005.
8. I added a layer of Chartreuse, followed by a bit of shading with Seaweed and Green Olives. To make the leaves pop, I used a technique that Jo Firth-Young uses, she draws around images with a black fine line pen and it really does add something to your work. Sorry I forgot to take a photo of this step but you can see it in the final piece.
9. Now for my flower. On a piece of heavy weight, white smoothy card, I used Chutney to stencil the flower from PS003.
10. When it was dry, I re-positioned the stencil using the dots which were designed to fit this flower and added a layer of snowflake so that I could then add Chartreuse dots.
11. I painted a Crunchy Paper die cut Bloom and added some Treasure Gold to the creases. While I had the black paint yo hand, I also painted a small resin flower and gave it the Treasure Gold treatment, this would become the centre of my flower.
12. For the finishing touches I stamped the following stamps with Rangers Black Archival ink.
Message - ELB05
Icon across top and bottom - LPC028
Splats - MN72
13. I just love how paint works, you can see so much detail in all the layers.
I hope you enjoyed following the process that I follow and maybe give it a go yourself.
I'm off out for lunch now to celebrate a very special little man's birthday, he turned eight on Wednesday and was away on holiday in Spain for his Birthday....can't wait to see him.
Don't forget class release tomorrow, I am really excited to be teaching new classes with so many new products.

So love it Lin! Can you move the spotty flower stencil to shadow the spots. Hang on a minute I have the stencil will go & try, far better than revision! Lol
