Sunday 26 January 2014

My news and a bit of a catch up.

It's been a while since my last post so I thought I would do a bit of a catch up thingy. Last weekend was a lot of fun, exhausting but that's all part of the experience. The lovely Ali from Ali-Crafts invited me to teach a class at her retreat in Daventry and as Daventry is kind of just up the road, I really couldn't say no.
Thirty eight fabulous and very enthusiastic students took part and a grand time was had by all. Some people actually did three days as Hels taught a class on Friday for 25 of the students. Rob, The MDF Man also took part, teaching a ginormous clock project to the weekend people and my project was a little memory book. I only took a few photos on the day but at least you will get the feel of the event.

And of course there's shopping to be paid for.

And this is my sample of what they made.

The next Ali-Craft retreat is 5th, 6th and 7th September 2014 and I will be there on Saturday 6th September to teach another class.

On Thursday and Friday, Karen and I took part in one of Hilary Beattie's classes at The Bramble Patch. I discovered Hilary's amazing work at the NEC last year when she was exhibiting at a show. I instantly loved her style, I purchased her book and went home very inspired. I did have a bit of a dabble on my own but there is nothing like attending a class and I can honestly say that Hilary packs her classes full of information and is a brilliant teacher. Both Karen and I loved it. Hilary's method of working with paint is a very different approach from other textile artists that I know and although I am not going to tell you her methods here on my blog, I would thoroughly recommend her book and classes to anyone.

Here a few snaps of what I did in class.

This one is on paper as Hilary uses both fabric and paper in her finished pieces.

This one is on brown wrapping paper.

We even hand cut our own stencils during class. My stencil is the poppy one on the next piece. At this stage it just has Grunge Paste over the top of a paper and fabric collage which I made on a piece of wallpaper! Genius idea if Hilary's to work on wallpaper, I seriously love it as a surface to work on!

Today, I played around with it.....not sure it's finished yet but the light today is so dire, I'm going to wait until we have a bit of sunshine before I decide.

Enjoy what's left of the weekend.

Fabulous makes. I especially like your poppy stencil, the colour really makes it pop.

I love working on wallpaper too, free (I must admit to taking rather long samples at our DIY superstore!) and so lovely and thick it takes all my wet mediums and and I am not tied to A4.
