Out of the Journal

It's week two of Out of the Journal over at Dina Wakley's place. I decided to do a beeswax creation this week along with some Pan Pastels. Some time ago my wonderfully creative friend Suze Weinburg told me how amazing Pan Pastels are in conjunction with beeswax and it has probably taken me about two years to try it for myself!! Well, I can tell you she was right, I love it!

I worked on quite a small canvas, just 5" x7" as I wasn't sure how easy it would be to manage. I need not have worried, it was a breeze! I just love the way the Pan Pastels moved and mingled with the wax when I heated it with my heat gun.

I started by painting my canvas with Honey Dew Fresco Finish paint. When this was dry, I added some orange pan Pastel to add some interest to the background.

I used my melted beeswax to stick down three image that I had stamped with Rangers Archival ink on to tissue paper. It's important to heat set the ink before attempting to colour the images and I used a selection of watered down Fresco paints to colour mine. The images are all Dina's stamps, manufactured by Stampington, the lady is from the original release and the others are from Garden Grunge.

I sponged some Pan Pastels through a stencil and added another layer of wax with a brush. You don't need to worry if it goes all lumpy bumpy, it will smooth itself out when you heat it with the heat gun, Next layer was some black paint through the Crafters Workshop Bingo stencil and heated again. After another layer of wax, more colours of Pan Pastels followed and heat set again. This is when you see some amazing things happen. You can actually use the power of the heat gun to blend and move the Pan Pastels in the wax.....magic!! Once I got over the excitement, I realised that it needed a little something else so I took one of Dina's script stamps and stamped into the wax with my Archival ink. Now heat setting this was a little tricky as the oil based ink wanted to mingle as well, so if you try this be very careful. Finishing touch....Real  Life came from a 7 Gypsies tag!

Hopefully you will be able to see the layers from these close up pictures.

Why don't you hop on over to Dina's blog and join in the fun.
