Easter Playday

Well I hope you guys have all had a lovely Easter Weekend even if the weather is completely rubbish here in the UK........typical Bank Holiday weather! Still there's always chocolate....right???? OK this will probably shock you......I have not touched one bit of Easter egg chocolate yet!!!! Note that I said yet!!! I've been so busy that it didn't even cross my mind. I hear you thinking....what could possibly keep her so busy that she didn't even think about chocolate???? Well, I am trying to pull together some samples for my future classes at The Bead Scene before I go on my hols next week. I have a few already that I am excited about but I wanted to have a couple more up my sleeve.

I also have a great big pile of new stash from the NEC and Paris that has been yelling at me across the studio for my attention. I need to find homes for this stuff and it would be quite nice to actually play with some of it........so that's exactly what I did. Having got a class project finished, I felt I deserved a little dabble just for me.....after all, I am supposed to be retired!!!

I wanted to try something completely different and this piece is totally inspired by the lovely and very talented Helen Cowans who I met at the NEC recently. She was showcasing her beautiful and very elegant work and I just fell in love with all of it. Karen and I had a lovely chat with her, she told us that most of the vintage fabric she uses comes from vintage fairs and she has a few dealers who know what she likes and they just keep stuff specially for her....how fab is that. Anyways, you should go check out her work, click here to hop on over to her place and see for yourself.

So back to my piece, I purchased a little baggie of stuff from Helen containing a few colour co-ordinated bits'n'bobs. A piece of hand dyed fabric, which I used as my main background, the most gorgeous blue strip of velvet, some sheer nylon kinda stuff.....I have no idea of it's real name, some lace and three mother of pearl buttons. Added to this wonderful mix of contrasting items, I added my own papers, washi tape, lace and embellishments....don't you just love that giant Prima flower all made out of ribbon?

So here's a couple of close up shots, hopefully you'll be able to see the layers better.

That's me for today......think it's time to open some Easter Eggs......there's definitely something special about Easter Egg chocolate........yum.

I think this is fabulous! I haven't had any Easter Eggs either - didn't get any - just a couple of mini eggs (not from the same bag though, lol!) But you are right, there IS something about Easter Egg chocolate!
Can't wait to see what you do for Ally Pally - then you can have your holiday, lol!

This is absolutely gorgeous Lin, I love it! It all goes so well together, the delicate bit of lace, the different textures, the colours, the whole thing...... !Mary and myself also spoke to Helen, such a beautiful stand - and a very talented lady who was also lovely. The fabric packs were lovely - think I purchased two! I just keep looking at them!
