Over the winter months, I like to have a larger project to work on. Something that I can pick up during an evening to add stitch and embellishment to. I am very lucky to have a fabulous studio in my garden, complete with good heating but during the dark winter evenings, I actually prefer to park myself on the sofa and do a spot of sewing. With this in mind, around October time, I started to prepare some fabric pages for what I thought would be a new fabric book. I gathered bits of lace, ribbon and buttons along with fabrics that I had stencilled designs on, along with a pile of rusty fabric. Apart from the rusting of fabric, many of the other techniques are techniques taught to me by some very talented artists....Hilary Beattie, Lynda Monk and Beryl Taylor so out of respect for those very lovely ladies, I'm not going to share how I made each page, I'd simply like to share the photos with you.
This next page could be my favourite page.
As I mentioned earlier, I started this project with the intention of making it into a book but Mark planted the seed of another idea in my brain by saying "if it's a book, not many people will see it!" Now I'm trying to decide whether to:
a. stitch them all together to make an art quilt.
b. Stitch them on to a larger piece of calico, leaving a border between each piece.
c. Frame them all individually and hang them as a series of nine small artworks.
What do you guys think???

Lin, this is extraordinary! All the detail is amazing and the stitching divine! Mark is right, you need to displace this prominently! I would say an art quilt...Love this!
These are all exquisit!!!!!! Can t choose a favourite, the detailed stitching is superb! Love that you have mixed so many textures and techniques into each piece. I think a 3 x 3 display would be best where it can be seen and enjoyed xxx
Shepherds pie simmering! Lin, I need to live on this blog page and soak up all this goodness. I think that a wall hanging would be really good. A quilt would maybe not stand the test of time with such beautiful detail.
Someone said on Facebook that you should produce a book to display them. Published of course. Not necessarily with secrets of assembling but just for the likes of me to drool and dream. A coffee book table.
Every piece is a total delight and one day, I may get to see some of these for real. Hope so! Love Hazel xx
On my Lin, breathtaking work as always. Mark is definitely right! These treasures need to be seen by as many as possible but I depends where you want to display them as to the means. For myself I would want these mount8ng of to a larger piece of calico and then hung in my hall I think. Ha, I can but dream of ever creating something half as beautiful!

Wow I do love these Lin, so much detail x
Wow I do love these Lin, so much detail x
So beautiful Lin. I do love books and like you that would have been what I would have chosen to do. But I must admit it would be lovely to have them on display possibly as an art quilt. Can't wait to see what you decide xxx
You are so talented Lin - I love how you use colour and texture and you never fail to inspire! I think an art quilt would look just gorgeous! xxx
Absolutely stunning Lin I love it so you!!
Lin, you have surpassed yourself with this! I agree with Mark, it needs to be on display - I love the idea of a quilt, but that wouldn't get seen much either, unless you framed it - I like the idea of lots of individual frames too... stunning work!
Absolutely stunning!!!!
Stunningly beautiful Lin, exquisite stitchery, love the bullion stitched leaves...love them all. Exquisite and just has to be on show! Ruth xx
OH MY, Lin!!!!! These have left me gob-smacked! You know that I drool over everything you make, but these pieces are really mind-blowing and absolutely gorgeous. I think Mr. Mark is absolutely right -- they need to be seen -- they should be in the V&A!!!!!!!!! I think -- if it were up to me -- I would somehow make a wall quilt out of them -- something which could be transported to exhibitions once in a while, and which lots and lots of people could see and gasp over (like I'm doing, still!!!). How on earth many hours of work have you put into this wonderful collection? I'm so pleased that I just had a few minutes on the iPad at the same time as your blog post popped up. Thanks so much for showing us such wonders.
Love to you from me, as always - Sal xoxoxox
These are beautiful art Lin. The idea, techniques and materials... It is a perfect work with everything blended. I think No,C is best but which facilities you would like to exhibit to planning. Another idea...digital book for sell. Personally I want you to make it public. xx
These are Beautiful. I rarely take the time to comment on anyone's work, but these are too lovely to ignore. I think an art piece or art quilt would best make a statement. Not so sure about calico...that sounds 'busy'. I'm thinking just a background of a tannish brown.
beautiful work! i am partial to books myself but a small quilt/wall hanging would be lovely too.
Lin, these pieces are absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! They all left me in awe!!!
Keep going back to look again and still couldn't say the best way to display them...As you know I love fabric books..But these would also look brilliant as a wall hangings.....Or perhaps an art quilt...Oooo wouldn't be able to decide xxx
I would frame them all individually...so stunning!
Lin, this is stunning. Each page is so beautiful. It's one of those projects I'd love to see in real ife.
Wow!!! These are fabulous!!!!!!!!!! Hmmm... a book means you can take them with you and let people look. Individually framed would look awesome as a grouping on a wall. Tough choice!!!
These are gorgeous, love them. I think book would be great, Ieave on the coffee table and people won't be able to resist having a look :)
Hi Lin, Oh these are exquisite pieces & I love them all. I do have a soft spot for books but actually think that an art quilt would display them best...let us know 😙 xxx
